SMA Outcome Measures

Functional outcome measures used in SMA - information for families and professionals

What are outcome measures?

What are outcome measures and why are they so important?

11/18/2016

Outcome measures are the tools which are used by your Physiotherapist, Doctor, Nurse, Health Professional and others to assess and measure your current ability, physical function and medical condition.  Outcome measures may take many forms for example a measurement of muscle power or length, a series of activities you are asked to perform which the medical professional rates using an objective rating scale (clinical outcome assessment), or a self-reported questionnaire which you have to fill in (patient/parent reported outcome) to name just a few.

In
Spinal Muscular Atrophy and with regards this section the outcome measures we refer to are the tests used during your review appointment with the physiotherapist.
